I’m Hooked!!

I’ve read this series I have to say that this author pulls me in each and every time leaving me wanting for more from her. I love her style of writing because anyone who can have me reading with me turning pages as fast as I can and making me feel invested is a winner.

This whole series has been a 5* for me and I can hope that it doesn’t end for a very long time.

New to the contemporary romance world in 2020, author, Kaylene Winter is shining bright with her heartstopping Less Than Zero rockstar romance series.  With the first two books, Endless and Limitless, this series gets off to an impressive and angsty start, each featuring one gorgeous member of this up and coming Seattle bands road to finding success AND their one and only loves.

Now, the latest offering- Restless, a prequel to this amazing new series, takes us back 20 or more years, highlighting the life a man I had already wanted to dislike- guitar super hero, Carter Pope.  He appears in both Endless and Limitless, but I wasn't sure I wanted to know him in his youth... how very wrong I was!   Somehow, Kaylene Winter has made me love this guy! Now I'm curious and completley fascinated by his story.  I can't get enough of him. She has captured my attention once again.

Lovely Lianne Rocks was on Carter's radar since he first laid eyes on her.  She may have played hard to get but boy did she want to be noticed by him. Seeing this bad boy fall in love with the strong, beautiful, independent ballerina, while trying to be a better man for her, was what young romance dreams are made of.  The surprise of becoming a father at such a young age, trying to juggle his family along with the added stress of life on the road with his touring band was a lot to handle.  Being a member of an up and coming band destined for stardom, time apart and one mistake too many will take Carter's choices away when Lianne's patience reaches its final limit. Will Carter be able to come back from the loss of his soulmate and his son?

Lianne and Carter's POVs during their past, leading up to their present days, gave their story the all the depth you'd expect of those gritty, stomache dropping emotions and the wisdom of looking backwards later with regret of what could have been but may never be again.

I was crushed by their past and yet hopeful that time and space would allow them to come back to each other the way I thought they were meant to.  True love conquering all? I really wanted that so bad I could taste it. Happiness and heartbreak, all rolled up together made this book really difficult to put down. I've read it several times already and I know I'd read it again.

Carter managed to engrave himself on my rockstar loving heart after reluctantly turning the last page on this novella length story of love found and lost. Only 11 chapters and an epilogue long but what powerful feelings Kaylene Winter has pulled out of Carter and Lianne's beautiful and touching story.  I didn't want it to end. I am hoping and praying for their interrupted relationship go full circle in the next books in the LTZ series.  Sharing their son, yes, but could it be more?

This expansive series Kaylene Winter is creating continues to be addictive and unforgettable.  The excitement of knowing these are only her first contributions in the romance world, what comes next will no doubt be to die for.

Restless is a new novella in the Less than Zero Series from Kaylene Winter. This amazing rock star romance writer crashed onto the scene in 2020 with Endless and Limitless and now early in 2021 she brings us Carter and Lianne's story.

Though it is a short read, it really turned my opinion of Carter upside down as we learned about his past and why he acted the way he did with Ty. Kaylene does an amazing job of showing Carter in a completely new light and I definitely understood why he was the way he was so much more. His love story with Lianne is beautiful and romantic and heartbreaking in parts, but at the same time Lianne comes through as a strong woman who despite all can still bring this hardened rocker to his knees.

Unable to say more without giving everything away, but if you have read the other two books you need to add this one to your kindle quickly!

This was such a sweet and quick read about what fame, rock n roll, family, and drugs can do, even if you are truly in love. The amount of passion mixed with turmoil these two characters have gone through while raising their son, all while trying to live their lives and rock their careers, will have you anxiously awaiting what the next chapter, next page, and the next sentence will bring. Kaylene goes in depth with Carter and Lianne’s characters, leaving no questions unanswered. Cannot wait for the next installment of Ty and Zoey!!

I am blown away by how well written and entertaining this novella is as I feel like I have been on a roller coaster of emotions and loving every moment of it! The rich writing style and interesting plot drew my attention immediately and I easily found myself enthralled with Carter and Lianne’s story. Restless is a bit of a bittersweet novella, but it is also a romance that beautifully highlights that a second chance at happiness and love is indeed possible even when the journey is long and bumpy.

If you’ve read this author’s previous books, then you will recall that former rockstar Carter is also Zane‘s father from the band Less Than Zero. As I have been most curious about him, I was thrilled to capture a closer look into his past to discover why he is the way he is. Carter and Lianne were very young when they first connected , but their deep love for each other was undeniable. Witnessing everything they endured and how things unraveled was positively heartbreaking. Their relationship spans many years with moments of heartbreak, angst, and longing. But their journey is as also full of healing, redemption, & love.

Carter’s character, for such a short story, was impeccably well-developed and the character growth was spot on. This man won me over! Lianne was a remarkable heroine that was so easy to relate to. My heart hurt for her many times over. I admired her strength and resilience to move forward and do what she needed to do even if it tore her apart in the process. Sharing a son together, their relationship could never be severed, but their intense love for each other could never be completely shattered either. Even with healing, hope, and redemption are forgiveness and second chances possible?

I am truly amazed that this author was able to elicit so many feels out of such a short novella. At times I was in tears as my heart was being crushed and other times I was smiling with happiness. I really enjoyed Carter and Lianne’s story and I hope to see more of them in the future books.

All I can say is thank God it wasn’t about Ty & Zoe! It’s a good look into Carter who is Zane’s dad and the love of his life Lianne who’s Zane’s mom. They were very young when they got together and their struggle and heartbreak. Even reading the first two books I like Carter and thought he had good reasons for breaking up the two young lovers. I still wanted to drop kick him because Ty and Zoe suffered for eight years. But I get it, he really believed he was doing the right thing. It’s hard to hate someone when his heart was in the right. Also I didn’t realize Ty was really going to give up everything he worked for. So yeah, I’m glad Ms Winter wrote this novella and I got to see this part of the story. I can’t wait to read about Zane because this kid is perfect.

Have to say that after reading this prequel, I will definitely be reading the story. I loved how it touched on what both of these characters were feeling and going through. I honestly loved how it touched on the fact that while she loved him, she was hurt by the fact that she felt they weren't enough. I loved how he owned his mistakes and was determined to take it at her pace to win her back. Definitely a good start to the series!

Great introduction to the series. Gives you the background how the band was formed. This novella ends with the band getting ready for their first tour. The only downfall was that it was told from one of the band members parents who was in the same situation 18 years prior. I would definitely like to see where the series goes.

🎧🎧AUDIO & EBOOK REVIEW🎧🎧

It always blows my mind when an author takes a story barely over 80 pages long and kicks me in the gut with it. And then I go and listen to the audiobook months later and I’m all up in my feelings AGAIN!!

Yeah, I might be a little more than crazy over all things LTZ and Kaylene Winter!

This is a prequel, but not your typical prequel. It’s not a before of any one band member or even the series, but kinda, LOL It’s the journey of Carter and Lianne, their baby boy Zane, and a glimpse of the future which is really the present if you’ve read the series. BTW, you should probably have read at least the first four books in this series before reading this short story, but for sure, Zane’s story in Timeless. I didn’t read it until I had read the entire series, but that’s just me being OCD lol Whichever format you pick, it's gonna be an emotionally-fueled journey!

Carter and Lianne’s story is heartbreaking but so real that my heart was full and all I could do the entire time I read (then listened) was fell hopeful. It’s a very realistic story that happens all the time, which gave it that air of realism I love so much in my romances.

I cannot recommend this entire series more. It is ridiculously well constructed, full of emotional hope, and very realistic.

Up and coming rock star Carter is smitten with Lianne, a ballerina in training. Both are young and are explosive together. When Lianne finds out she's pregnant, they both do their best to make it work with their hectic schedules. But things take an ugly turn when Carter gets caught up in the rock star lifestyle and he makes tragic and life-altering decisions that he can't erase. Years later their son Zane is on his way to stardom with his band Less Than Zero (LTZ). Carter is now sober, clean and doing what he can to make it up to his son for being a terrible father. He also believes there is still a chance that Lianne will take him back now that they are talking again and on good terms.

This is my first time reading this author's work and I went into this book blind, not realizing books 1 and 2 have already been written. This is a short novella condensed with Carter and Lianne's time together and apart. Carter screwed up big time and Lianne finally had enough and left, taking Zane with her. Now Zane is grown up and ready to follow in his father's steps. Book 1 is his bandmate Ty's book, a son to Carter and Zane's best friend. Looking at the band's best interest and not wanting them to repeat his past mistakes, it looks like Carter makes some decisions for the band that causes more damage than good. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Thank you Hidden Gems Books for a free copy of this book to review. I was also able to purchase it for free on Amazon.

Kaylene Winter has created a Rockstar world that is utterly addictive!! Restless may be a short read but holy moly this story packs a punch to the feels and took me on an emotional rollercoaster ride of epic proportions!!!
Carter and Lianne's story is heartbreaking and shows how the fame, the parties, the drugs, and the temptations of the Rockstar world can give you a high but also have you hitting rock bottom and possibly losing the love of your life.
This story was heartbreaking and yet beautifully romantic. It had my heart equally warming and aching, and me sad, angry, frustrated, happy, and looking forward to more from these two characters in future books. While the path to travel seems a little clearer the journey is still unfinished.
A MUST READ SERIES!!!

Appreciated BackStory

Rated ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5
Angst: 🖤🖤🖤 3/5

Having already started the Less Than Zero Rockstar series and being hooked, I was thrilled to see this prequel drop! Getting more backstory into the angsty lives of some of my favorite rockers is a huge bonus add to the series! In the prequel we backtrack almost two decades to the beginnings of the formation of the band and past generation. I actually hadn't gotten around to my review for Endless and this gives me extra fuel for my thoughts!

Wasn't really for me. I don't like books were is cheating, don't find it very interesting. If that would happend to me, I would be out, no questions ask. It was a short book, more like a fast summary of the book. Ok if you like rock stars and cheating and time lapses.

I've had my eye on this series for a while now and decided that this novella was a great chance for me to dip my toes in and see if I was going to enjoy what it has to offer. The answer is yes!

Though this is a novella, a lot happens in it. We're given a story that spans many, many years and though we aren't given a lot of in between as it jumps over years, we're given enough to piece it together on our own. It's a good slice of where everything started and goes a long way in explaining why things are the way they are for certain characters. I'm intrigued to read from other points of view as this story progresses to see how it all falls together.

I listened to the audiobook and Reginald James and Lynn Barrington did a wonderful job on it. They both have voices that pull you right into the story and manage to come across both calming and sexy. This is a quick read so they don't have a lot of time to show all their prowess but they leave you wanting more from them.

This book does exactly what it's designed to do – whet the appetite for all things Less Than Zero. Awesome name for a band, right? And since I’ve been on a rock star romance kick, I'll be reading my through all things LTZ.

This story gives us a glimpse into the lives of Carter and Lianne, the parents of Zane, a founding member of Less Than Zero. While it's a quick story that covers decades, I love the authenticity of it. Winter doesn’t shy away from real-life struggles, neither glamorizing nor glossing over them.

If you’re at all a rock star romance fan, you’ve found your next binge with this series. Compelling, authentic, and heartfelt, you won’t want to miss this prequel to what promises to be an exceptional series!

5 Stars for this rockstar romance!

This is the prequel to Less Than Zero series ... and OMG I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

This is the story of Carter and Lianne, the parents of Zane (lead guitarist for LTZ). Carter had a very rough childhood and tried hard to not fall into his family's addictions. But when you're in a rock band and all of life's temptations are at your fingertips, it's hard to resist. My heart broke for Lianne, as she was so in love with Carter, but she had a son to protect.

This is the first book I've read/listened to by Kaylene Winter. It was a short, but good listen. A rocker and a ballerina whose beginning story is heartbreaking. Carter had made bad decisions and is working to overcome them. Lianne is a strong heroine. Definitely had me wanting more for Carter and Lianne. Surely with this ending, it is coming.

Reginald James and Lynn Barrington are excellent narrators. Both are new to me. They have great voices that had this audiobook rolling like a movie in my head. Their performances were spot on.

Restless is a prequel to the LTZ series and provides us with glimpses into Carter and Lianne’s relationship. Flashbacks tell their incredibly emotional story that is full of love, pain, sorrow, betrayal, and healing.

Carter is a complicated character that I both love and hate. He’s full of so much promise but doesn’t make the best decisions. Through the years, he realizes his mistakes and tries to move past them.

Lianne is a goddess. She’s a strong, independent woman who stands up for herself and her son. She loves Carter, but she knows what she deserves in life and refuses to settle for less.

I have both read and listened to the audio of this novella and the audio gave me a new appreciation for the story. Reginald James and Lynn Barrington were perfection as the narrators for this story. They are both new narrators to me and I loved them both. The inflections in their voices brought so much emotion to the story and really brought it to life for me.

Seeing flashbacks to Carter’s and Lianne’s time together was bittersweet and heartbreaking, but you could feel all the love that was still simmering underneath the surface through the years. Restless gave me a new understanding of both characters and left me feeling hopeful for their future.

True love is often a rollercoster not a straight line

This really filled in all the back story on Zane’s Dad Carter. You learn the motivation of a major decision he makes in a later book. A great prequel

Novella was good. It's not a feel good story so don't read it if you need a pick me up. It's of a story a girl who loves with all her heart and the man that did not love her enough to be strong for her. Using addiction as an excuse for cheating is just plain stupid. I wish that she would have moved on, that she would have fallen deeply in love with a faithful person. It's a sad story because she only gave her heart once and Carter did not deserve her.

Restless
Less Than Zero, Book .5
By: Kaylene Winter
Narrated by: Lynn Barrington, Reginald James

You had me at rockstar romance! This is my first Kaylene Winter book and I am hooked. Prequel to the Less Than Zero series, I met Carter and Lianne. Young love is so strong, and the up and coming rockstar is taken with the prima ballerina. But parenthood was not what he saw in his immediate future. Stardom, with all it comes with takes Carter and pulls him away from his son and love. Now clean, he wants back in. Will Lianne find it in her heart to give him a chance? This is a fantastic look back into the early years. I love this kind of story, as it gives a glimpse into how their lives came to be. The struggles and happiness all are floated into this story, and it has me getting ready to start the series! I loved it.

Lynn Barrington and Reginald James voice this quick listen with all the emotions. Barrington gives us Lianne's POV, inflections of how she was feeling and the real struggle she dealt with. James brings us a performance of the torturous and happy feelings Carter had. These two are fantastic together and made my listen a pleasure.

Prequel to the series about Zane’s parents. Ends in a cliffhanger of will they or won’t they now that they’re adults. It spans the time of when they’re 19, pregnant and his band is taking off to Book 1 and their son’s band getting their start. It’s a prequel but was incredibly short to really get attached to them or the upcoming characters. The sex scene’s “dialogue” was off to me and I found myself skimming.

I received a copy of this book from Hidden Gem ARCs for an honest review.

Carter's band is on the verge of success. Lianne is a prima ballerina working her way up through her dance company into lead roles. Both are talented, both are on the verge of stardom. How each will handle the pressures and changes in their lives could not be more different.

In this prequel, Carter and Lianne begin young and in love, long before the events in the Less Than Zero series. While Lianne continues to advance her career and takes care of their young son (the future musical prodigy), Carter spirals out of control. This story follows the breakdown of their relationship - due in large part to Carter's struggles with fidelity and addiction -and his attempts to return to a more worthwhile life.

This story covers a lot of ground in a relatively small number of pages; more than a decade in the lives of Carter and Lianne. I think they deserve their own full-length book, because while both Carter's and Lianne's lives are captured in the story, it is a somewhat cursory overview of the events of their lives. I really couldn't get emotionally invested in these characters due to the speed with which each heartache or victory was written into the story. Perhaps this novella was just a bit too ambitious.

With that said, the characters are well-written and believable. I wanted to experience the rollercoaster associated with Carter and Lianne's rocky romance, but couldn't quite get there.

Three stars for this rock star romance prequel.

This is an honest, voluntary review of an ARC of the story.
