Utility Improvements, a group within Asset Management and Large Projects, oversees City Light’s portion of the Waterfront Seattle (WFS) Program and related projects. City Light’s WFS program includes design and construction of 13.8kV duct banks, vaults, and transmission line relocation. Nearly 90% of a $259M budget has been spent to date on these efforts. In addition, the group is managing the completion of the South Access Phase 2 surface street restoration project, which is currently under construction and planned to finish is Q4 2022. These projects have significant regional and local impacts.
 
The Project Management Intern will assist the Utility Improvement group in delivering customer driven projects during a fast-paced environment.

Job Responsibilities

During this internship, the intern will be responsible for:
•    Job shadowing the Project Managers.
•    Review and process design and construction documents.
•    Review and provide input to program dashboards.

This internship will benefit the student through the following learning objectives:
•    Implementation of project management principles including risk management.
•    Hands on field experience.
•    Understanding key document control measures.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
This position is open to junior and senior undergraduate or graduate students (as of the start of the internship) studying Project Management, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering or an equivalent academic program.  Undergraduate students must possess at least a 2.0 GPA at the time of application and throughout the internship. Graduate students must maintain a 3.0 GPA.

Interns must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary educational program leading to a certificate or degree. Applicants must be in good standing with their educational program and remain enrolled in that program throughout their internship.

Desired Qualifications:
Software including Word programs, PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft Projects, Visio, Adobe and SharePoint. Coursework in communications, construction management, leadership, contract law and ethics.

Additional Information

Internship Duration and Hours:
The timeframe of the internship will be either May-August 2022 (semesters) or June-September 2022 (quarters). The candidate can work 40 hours/week during the summer. Work hours will be flexible to accommodate intern's academic schedule.
