Tour a Beautiful Historic Home Reimagined With Glamour

These Pittsburgh homeowners had lived in their 100-year-old home for more than 20 years and raised their kids there before deciding to renovate. They found Florida designer Andrea Martoccia-Fava of Motivo Home on Houzz and hired her to “reinvigorate the spaces that they use and love the most,” she says.

A major focus was the kitchen, where Martoccia-Fava took down a wall to expand the space to fit double islands. She also relocated the range to take in views of a back garden and koi pond. Beautiful quartzite countertops, gold finishes, a high-gloss ceiling, rich woods and a bank of green cabinets deliver glamorous style while staying true to the history of the home.

Martoccia-Fava used Houzz Pro software to coordinate with her clients and design team for the project, which also included elegant but cozy updates to the living room and main bedroom.

Of course these yinzers need a good TV to watch the Stillers games! I love the black grasscloth wallpaper behind it.

While the glam of these spaces is not my personal preference, the design is so solid that you can easily swap out the glitzy light fixtures, mirrored coffee tables, and swanky stools and create an entirely other look that would be more historic in keeping with the house or with whatever new trend is on the horizon. Great job!

This is by far the best redecorating and reimagining project I have ever seen. I am impressed by the interior designer’s sense of style and taste — from the quartzite counter tops and green cabinetry in the bright, well appointed kitchen to the cozy family room nearby.

I’d love to live in that warm, richly appointed home. Well done Andrea!

More traditional than I would do my own space but this is a wonderful design. Kudos to Andrea!

This is stunning and kept the historic feeling of the home. Does the window over the stove get greasy and need very regular cleaning? I envisioned having to clean the white couch after the first or second football party. What is the family friendly fabric on the living room couch? Great job!

Beautiful spaces! Cooking at that stove must be fun! Always a different view. I would love to know the name of the paint color in the primary bedroom.

While it is an improvement over what was there before, in that the before spaces were dated and dark, all the materials and finishes are way over the top. For instance the green may be related to a historic color, but a laquered green finish is not historic. The completed rooms would be much more appropriate in Miami, where money routinely trumps taste in decorating.

And what struck me is how the designer was able to successfully incorporate a modern aesthetic into an historic house and make it work! I’ve been on the internet ever since I saw the quartzite countertops and island trying to find the same thing to use in the house I am currently building. If anybody knows where I can find 2 slabs, please let me know. I’m looking for white with a copper vein. Thanks. 😊
