WASHINGTON – The IT Alliance for the Public Sector (ITAPS), a division of ITI, released a statement from Senior Vice President for the Public Sector Trey Hodgkins commending Senators Moran (R-Kan.), Udall (D-N.M.), Daines (R-Mont.), Warner (D-Va.), McCain (R-Ariz.), Reed (D-R.I.), Johnson (R-Wis.), McCaskill (D-Mo.) and the Senate Appropriations Committee for their hard work to pass the Modernizing Government Technology Act of 2017 (MGT Act) as a part of the National Defense Authorization Act for FY 2018:
“By passing the MGT Act, the Senate took an important step in updating our archaic government technology that currently leaves us vulnerable to cyberattacks,” Hodgkins said. “Couple that with the fact that we spend the majority of our $80 billion IT budget to maintain legacy systems, this bill is a win for taxpayers’ wallets while also protecting their information. We thank the Senators for passing this bill and look forward to continuing to work with the House to get this bill to the president’s desk.”
ITAPS has been actively engaged in passing the MGT Act and last week, we joined a chorus of other technology trade associations that urged Chairman McCain and Ranking Member Reed to include the legislation in the NDAA. In addition, ITAPS and its member companies crafted and sent over key recommendations to the White House offering guidance on how the Trump Administration can strengthen U.S. cybersecurity and national security, attract talented IT workers needed at federal agencies, enhance government services, and improve federal efficiency.
