Congratulations, Elizabeth Caldwell, for becoming the 5th Truman Scholar in school history! The Truman Scholarship, named in honor of the late U.S. President Harry S. Truman, is given to high-achieving college students who show commitment to public service and potential to continue that service beyond graduation. Caldwell will receive up to $30,000 for graduate study, leadership training, career counseling and other opportunities within the federal government. She is the only student to be named a Truman Scholar in South Carolina this year.

The Clemson Class Ring serves as a reminder of the bond between alumni. Congratulations to the 2,000 students who received their rings today and continue to build the Clemson Family!

Thank you to everyone who attended the seventh annual Men of Color National Summit and for all the speakers and organizers who make this event a success! We hope to see you again next year.

Among his family, Luis Gonzalez-Gonzalez ’27 is considered a “first-generation everything.” And in the Clemson Family, he holds an important “first” title, too. See how his future, the University’s future and the aerospace industry’s future changed when he became one of the first students to receive the Boeing STEM Tiger Alliance Scholarship.

Today marks our ninth annual Give Day! Your generosity can significantly impact our students and the University for years to come.

Five of our students were selected for the prestigious 2024 Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship this year! Biochemistry majors Caroline Argenti and Adam Gatch, physics major Maggie Marte, mathematical sciences major Cody Waters and bioengineering major Audrey Wessinger are among 438 scholars selected nationwide. Clemson is one of only eight institutions with five chosen scholars, bringing our total number of Goldwater scholars selected since the program’s inception to 63.

We have achieved a Top 10 designation as a 2024-25 Military Friendly School and Military Spouse Friendly School! We improved on our silver designation of the past two years by ascending to a No. 7 ranking nationally among Tier 1 research institutions in both categories.

Mike Connor '84 completed all six Abbott World Marathon Majors in less than three years, earning him the coveted Six Star Medal! Add it all up, and it comes to 157.2 miles– one step at a time through Chicago, Boston, New York, Berlin, London and Tokyo. Connor ran six all six Abbott World Marathon Majors with support from his wife, Dorothy. Even with a career that has him listed as one of the nation’s top lawyers in intellectual property litigation and patent litigation, Connor makes the time to stay in touch with Clemson. By being a member of the Dean’s Leadership Circle in the Clemson University College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences. He also helps guide the Department of Mechanical Engineering as a member of its advisory board. One piece of advice from him: the more students have real-world contact, the better.
