Being likable matters

- It's nice to be liked but did you know there's a real business case for it too? Of course, people do business with people they know and like, beyond that research consistently shows likability is strongly correlated with career success. In fact, a study by talent smart of more than 1 million people found that those who are highly likable do much better in their careers than those who aren't. It doesn't stop with your career. University of Toronto research showed that likable people have half the divorce rate of the general population. Likable people also have a greater support network of friends and thus higher self-esteem lower stress and better health. We're talking about serious untapped potential here for personal and professional benefit. And being likable it just helps you get more of what you want. A University of California study showed that doctors give more time to patients they like. Other research shows lawyers who have likable clients see far better results in case rulings. Job candidates are more successful if they're likable, and I'm sure you've personally experienced getting better attention and extra help from someone that you know likes you. I'm self-leadership expert, Scott Mautz. In this course I'll teach you how to increase your likability by developing the right characteristics making the right interpersonal connections and exhibiting the right cues. And here's the good news. Being likable is largely controllable. When I ask people to describe someone they like they rarely point out inboard traits like intelligence or physical attractiveness. They describe qualities that are a choice like authenticity, positivity, or humility. So even if you're not naturally outgoing or charismatic you can learn to increase your likability factor.
