The Montgomery County Department of Transportation has launched an effort to educate residents on roadway safety. The organization wants to be sure people are safe.

“Bicycle safety is very important as well as pedestrian safety and driver safety,” stated Gary Erenrich of the Montgomery County Department of Transportation.

That’s why they are calling for residents to look out for each other with a new initiative. It’s to prevent accidents so all are aware of where they are supposed to be on the roads.

“On the solid green, it means you should not be driving there as a motorist. On the dashed green, it means it’s a mixing zone for drivers and for cyclists,” reports Sandra Brecher, MCDOT Chief of Commuter Services.

Some of the safety changes being launched includes bike lanes, bike boxes and floating bus stops. It’s all with the goal to educate and reduce all pedestrian accidents.

Officials also say this is just an addition to their efforts to make a greener environment, “and to create healthier, greener, sustainable transportation modes,” Brecher adds.

MCDOT has four areas in the county with the new green marks on the roadways.
