DAN FENELON

April 16, 2024 – May 19, 2024

Reception: Sunday, May 19th, 5 – 7 PM

Artist’s Statement:
I aim to create artwork that evokes emotion, tells a story, and sparks curiosity. My style is often described as vibrant, urban, and surreal. I enjoy experimenting with different mediums and techniques to bring my visions to life. Nature, icons and spirituality are recurring themes in my work. I find inspiration in the beauty of the creative mind, the mysteries of the universe, and the intricacies of the human soul. Through my art, I strive to explore these themes and convey a sense of wonder and depth. Whether I am working on a commercial illustration project or creating a personal piece for an exhibition, my goal is to create a visual experience that resonates with viewers. I want my art to provoke thought, spark conversations, and transport people to imaginary worlds.

About Dan:
Dan Fenelon is a highly accomplished artist with a background in fine arts education from institutions in Boston and New York City. With over thirty-five years of experience, he has excelled as both a commercial illustrator and fine artist with a diverse range of clients including Major League Baseball, Penguin Putnam, Toys R Us, and Mattel Toys. In 2014, he designed all the ornaments for the New Jersey State Christmas tree displayed at the White House in Washington DC. His impressive body of work, including fine art pieces and public murals, can be found in private collections, corporate offices, galleries, museums, and various neighborhoods across the tri-state area. Most recently Dan, along with his wife Kadie Dempsey, established Core Creative Placemaking LLC. Combining their talents they design projects that engage the public to create inspiring events and public art.

About The Galleries:

The Art Upstairs Gallery is located in the balcony lobby of Mayo Performing Arts Center. Exhibits are varied and showcase visual artists from a variety of mediums including watercolor, oil, photography, sculpture and more. Each year, the works of over 200 artists are showcased in group exhibits. Recent groups that have been showcased include the Essex Watercolor Club, New Jersey Photography Forum, Art in the Atrium and the Pastel Society of New Jersey. The Art Upstairs Gallery is a gift of the John and Margaret Post Foundation.

The Starlight Gallery is adjacent to our Starlight Room, MPAC’s reception hall that hosts VIP’s prior to concerts and events. Monthly exhibits have included individual artists such as Nina Nemeth, Lenny McDonald, Mike Dziomba and Paula Pearl. The Starlight Gallery is a gift of Wendy and Jay Birnbaum.

The galleries provide a unique opportunity to marry the visual and performing arts, and provide exposure to artists with an audience that may not normally frequent an art gallery. All artwork is available for purchase, a portion of which will go toward the mission of the non-profit galleries, Art Upstairs and Starlight.

The Galleries are open to ticket holders prior to shows, during intermission, by appointment and every Tuesday afternoon from 12:00 -2:00.  For more information, please contact Charles Miller at cmiller1@mayoarts.org or Lee Kaloidis at 973-539-0345 x6587.
