NDP: Ontario’s drivers need relief on their auto insurance now, not stretch goals

QUEEN’S PARK — The Official Opposition NDP’s Auto Insurance critic Tom Rakocevic and Brampton East NDP MPP Gurratan Singh released the following statement in response to the Ford government’s changes to provincial auto insurance regulations:
“The Ford government’s changes to Ontario’s auto insurance regulations do nothing to help drivers who are struggling to pay full-price auto insurance on top of their other bills during the COVID-19 pandemic. Drivers deserve a 50 per cent discount on their auto insurance to reflect the reality of decreased driving and accidents in the province. Instead of providing the discount that drivers need now, the Ford government has chosen to simply give auto insurance corporations the option of refunding drivers at an unspecified future date. This just isn’t good enough. Ontarians deserve relief and support from the province, not stretch goals.”
