REEF's Lionfish Collection & Handling Workshops include a classroom background on the invasion, lionfish biology, ecological impacts, current research, collecting and handling techniques, and much more! Once wrapping up on land, we will head out to the water and put our skills to work during a two-tank dive charter. The workshop and dives are free, and REEF will provide lionfish collecting gear, but you will need to bring your own SCUBA gear or organize a rental through the dive shop. Please contact the shop directly prior to the workshop if you need rental gear. *Due to the advanced nature of the lionfish collection dives an advanced dive certification and 30 dives minimum are required for dive participants.

  • Classroom background: 9AM (8:30 check-in)
  • Two-tank removal dives: 12:30 pm check-in

Please note that if you sign up for this lionfish workshop you will not be able to participate in the Marathon Workshop on Wednesday, September 7. 

Meeting Location 

The classroom background will be held at Mote Marine Lab - 24244 Overseas Hwy., Summerland Key, FL. 

The two-tank removal dives will be held at Looe Key Reef Resort - 27340 Overseas Hwy, Ramrod Key, FL.  

Additional Details

REEF will provide lionfish collecting and handling gear to all registered participants. You will need to provide your own scuba diving equipment. If you need to rent equipment, you will need to set that up with Key Dives prior to the workshop date. 

You must place your $35 deposit to secure your dive spot on the removal charter. This deposit can be refunded if requested via email within 7 days upon completion of the workshop. 

If you have to cancel your registration you must do so within 48 hours of the workshop dives to refund your $35 deposit. We are not able to provide refunds within 48 hours of the workshop or for no-shows. 

Due to the advanced nature of the lionfish collection dives an advanced dive certification and 30 dives minimum are required for dive participants. If you do not meet one or both of these requirements you may be put on the waitlist.
