Human Impact on Erosion (TAG)
Major Assessment - Due Tuesday, 11/13
Humans are causing erosion...but how?
Erosion happens naturally, but human activities can often speed up erosion or cause erosion that would not have happened otherwise.
Humans cause erosion through:
- Deforestation
- Mining
- Agriculture/Farming
- Neighborhood Development/Construction
- Urbanization
- Dams
Your Task
In a group of 3-4 students you will select one of the human activities that cause erosion and create a presentation to inform your classmates of the issue.
Your group will create a poster, google doc, google slides, iMovie, Clips video to present to your classmates. You may also construct a physical model to accompany your presentation (this means you must ALSO have a presentation).
Requirements
Human Activity
- DESCRIBE and EXPLAIN the human activity you are presenting about. What it is? Why does it happen?
Human Impact
- Are there any benefits of the activity causing erosion? (economic, survival, nutritional, cultural, etc)
- What are the negative effects of the activity?
Evidence of Erosion
- DESCRIBE the erosion that is occurring as a result of the human activity.
- Include vocabulary: creep, landslide, etc.
Real World Examples
- Provide pictures and/or examples of the activity occurring in real life. Include where and what the pictures are and how they demonstrate your activity.
Limiting Future Human Impact
- What will happen if the activity and erosion continue?
- What can people do to limit the erosion? (include methods for soil conservation)
- Explain any laws that are in place to protect the land? If no, should there be?
- Is it possible to undo the damage that has been done?
