American Legion Post 10 New Year's Eve Party

WILMINGTON -- The American Legion Post 10 will hold a New Year's Eve Party beginning at 7 p.m. Dec. 31 at the post home, 702 Pine Grove Drive. The cost is $35 per couple, $20 single. Music will be provided by DJ Buddy Langley. He will be playing oldies '40s, '50s, through 2000, rock 'n' roll, and beach. There will be hors d’oeuvres. Participants can bring a dish to share. 

American Legion Post 10 Fish Fry

WILMINGTON -- American Legion Post 10 will hold its monthly fish fry, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Jan. 4, 2019, at 702 Pine Grove Drive. There are four different entrees available to purchase: Fish plate (two pieces of fish, 1-piece refill); Deviled Crab plate (three pieces of crab, no refill); half of a Baked Chicken plate; or a Combination plate (two pieces of fish, one crab, no refill). The plates also include slaw, hush puppies, potatoes. The cost is $9 per plate. Coffee, tea and water also provided. Homemade desserts also available to purchase for $2 a slice. Delivery of 10 or more plates within the Wilmington City limits. Call in orders at 910-799-3806.

American Legion Post 129 Fish Fry

CAROLINA BEACH -- American Legion Post 129 will hold its fish fry 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Jan. 4, 2019, at 1500 Bridge Barrier Road. A choice of large whiting fillet or North Carolina farm-raised catfish nuggets, slaw, potato salad, hush puppies, sweet or Yankee tea, $8. Beer battered shrimp or haddock is also available for $10 per plate. Dine-in or take-out. Proceeds are used to support veteran outreach and community sponsorship programs.

MOAA SENCLAND Chapter Scholarship Program

NEW HANOVER COUNTY -- Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) SENCLAND recently distributed a total of $13,000 in scholarships to veteran students at Cape Fear Community College, UNCW, and Brunswick Community College. Of the total, $5,000 was from Captain Henry Helgeson USCG (Ret)(deceased), who donated remaining assets from the Merchant Marine Maritime Fund. Col. Chrissy Sanford, US Army/Chapter VP2 chaired the Scholarship committee. Sixteen veteran students were awarded scholarships that contributed to making a major impact in supporting student veterans in Southeastern N.C. 5 CFCC students in Marine Technology, Engineering and Information Technology received $4,500. Eight UNCW veteran students in Nursing, Education, Conflict Management, English, Environmental Studies, and Marine Science received $6500. Three BCC veteran students in Nursing, Arts/Sciences and Aqua Culture Management received $2,000.

NARFE Wilmington Chapter 337

WILMINGTON -- National Association of Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), Wilmington Chapter 337, will meet on Jan. 3, 2019 at the Golden Corral Buffet and Grill, 5130 New Centre Drive. Social time will be 10:30-11 a.m.  The guest speaker Glenn Wilkinson will speak at 11 a.m. about his near death experiences. N.C. Sorosis Eva Ross Memorial Garden Brick Fundraiser

General Federation of Women's Clubs-NC North Carolina Sorosis invites families and friends who have been touched by the woman’s club to participate in the brick paver fundraiser. The brick pavers will be placed in the Eva Ross Memorial Garden at the front of the building on 20 S. Cardinal Drive. The cost of each paver is $125.
