Theodore Roosevelt Island
Overview
Theodore Roosevelt Island is a tribute to outdoors man and naturalist Theodore Roosevelt, the USA's 26th president. This 91-acre wooded island sanctuary features a memorial plaza (a perfect spot for a photo op with Teddy), as well as a few trails for exploring wooded uplands, swampy bottomlands, and Potomac River views. Bird watching and kayaking are also popular activities in and around the park.
The island is located on the Potomac River between Key Bridge and the Roosevelt Bridge, and is connected to Arlington via a pedestrian bridge. The park can be accessed by foot or bike via the Mount Vernon Trail and is a 10-15 minute walk from the Rosslyn Metro station. There is a parking lot,which can be accessed via the northbound lanes of the George Washington Memorial Parkway.
There are no fees to enter the park. Public restrooms are available onsite, but they are closed in the winter when they are replaced by portable restrooms.
