Scott’s latest attack on Bill Nelson is an attack on Marco Rubio, too

Rick Scott's campaign today took its latest shot at Bill Nelson over the Senate passage of a four-month extension of the debt-addled National Flood Insurance Program.

"By failing to fight for our state and allowing this financial burden to fall on millions on Floridians, Nelson has proven that he is an ineffective leader – and Floridians deserve better," the campaign said.

It's been a consistent line, blaming Nelson for Congressional inaction. But Scott might as well loop in Sen. Marco Rubio, whose GOP controls Washington.

Rubio could not get a long-term fix for the NFIP despite calling for one. He and Nelson teamed up on legislation last year, but it's gone nowhere.

Yesterday's Senate vote marked the seventh such short-term extension of NFIP, which serves nearly 2 million home and business owners in Florida.

And Scott might also point the finger at conservatives in the House, who have led objections to the flood insurance program, largely over its cost to taxpayers.

Politics being politics, that reality is ignored.

"By failing to fight for our state and allowing this financial burden to fall on millions on Floridians, Nelson has proven that he is an ineffective leader – and Floridians deserve better. Our state deserves a leader like Governor Scott who is focused on long-term, stable solutions, not a career politician that shows up at the last minute and does the bare minimum work.," Scott's campaign said.
