Simon Says Stamp - Hugs and Kisses Release Blog Hop, Day 1

Hi Lovelies!

Welcome to Day 1 of Simon Says Stamp's Hugs and Kisses Release Blog Hop! I promise you'll see more Valentine's themed crafting over the next two weeks, but today we are going to kick off a wall decor series that I want to do all year long.

My craft room is packed with supplies, but I think I'd like to have more makes on display to spark some joy! In addition, I thought it would be fun to be able regularly update some framed wall decor.

Actually, I'll confess right now, I got TWO square frames for the craft room; I'll keep this one all year round and then I'll switch out the displays in the other, perhaps monthly. I'll share these updates with you in upcoming blog posts. I don't know about you , but it makes me feel happy to see handmade things in my creative space.

I hope that you will enjoy this project but do to explore the Simon Says Stamp Release Gallery to check out so many other goodies from all the other makers!

With that said, let's review the key supplies for today's project:

For the full list, check out the Supplies Section at the end of this post.

When you figure out which items you need to shop for, remember to use the RBW23 code when you check out to snag the End of the Rainbow Stamp Set FREE with any purchase! This promotion will expire on 1/22 at 11:59 pm EDT or while supplies last.

SLAY WALL ART - Ink Blending, Stenciling with Texture, and Die-cutting

Wall Art Base: 8" x 8"

Stenciled Layer: 5 1/2" x 5 1/2"

Featuring:

COLOR PALETTE

PROJECT WALKTHROUGH

STENCILING THE BACKGROUND - Ink Blending

Trim a sheet of 110LB Neenah Cardstock to 6" x 6" and secure the cardstock to your preferred craft surface. I am using the Wendy Vecchi Make Art Stay-tion and Frog Tape Delicate Surface Masking Tape.

Use the Large Watermelon Blending Brush to ink-blend Sweets Pawsitively Saturated Ink onto the cardstock

Use the Large Teal Blending Brush to ink-blend Surf Pawsitively Saturated Ink onto the cardstock, overlapping with Sweets Ink.

Use the Large Citrine Blending Brush to ink-blend Sunbeam Pawsitively Saturated Ink onto the cardstock, overlapping with Surf and Sweets Inks.

You may need to repeat adding color to deepen and enhance the rainbow blend!

STENCILING THE BACKGROUND - Adding Texture

Leaving the stencil in place, use the Palette Knife to spread a layer of Tim Holtz Distress Crackle Paint Translucent over the ink-blended background.

The layer should not bee too thin or thick, hopefully the picture below gives you an idea of the appropriate amount.

As soon as this is complete, gently remove the tape and and carefully lift the stencil from the cardstock and place into a water bath for easy clean up.

Trim off the white edges once the Crackle Paint is dry.

DIE-CUTTING/LAYERING THE SENTIMENT

Die-cut the Slay Die letters layer 3 times out of Black Cardstock and adhere layers using Bearly Craft Glue as shown. Die-cut the outline layer 1 time out of Bright Yellow Cardstock and adhere the layered letters to that outline.

Die-cut the outline layer 4 times (I did it 5 times and then did not use 1 layer) out of 130lb Cardstock and apply Elmer's Spray Adhesive to secure the layers together.

Tip: I sprayed the adhesive outdoors in a cardboard box to reduce contamination in the craft room.

CREATING THE DISPLAY BASE

  • Using the Tim Holtz Guillotine, trim 2 pieces of Chipboard to 8" x 8" and ~5 1/2" x 5 1/2". Trim 1 sheet of 130lb White Cardstock to 8" x 8".

  • Adhere the dried stenciled layer to the ~5 1/2" x 5 1/2" chipboard and the white cardstock to the 8" x 8" chipboard using the Elmer's Spray Adhesive.

  • Adhere the layered sentiment to the ~5 1/2" x 5 1/2" chipboard

I had to trim off a little excess chipboard after I adhered it. :-)

That color and texture just makes me happy!!!

This is so simple and a joy to make that I hope you will give it a swing!

Let me know in the comments if you will make this for yourself or gift it to someone :-)
