FAO Schwarz confirms plans for more US airport shops

Iconic children’s toy brand FAO Schwarz has revealed plans to open further travel retail stores with partner Hudson Group.
Dufry struck a deal with FAO Schwarz last year to open its branded outlets across airports in the US and Canada, with the first location opening at New York’s La Guardia Airport in November.
In line with a global expansion strategy aimed at new markets, channels and categories, FAO Schwarz will introduce its second airport retail outlet at Chicago Midway in an exclusive agreement with the Dufry-owned North American travel retailer.
IND TO FOLLOW
Another point of sale at Indianapolis International Airport is set to follow, with more FAO Schwarz and FAO Schweetz shops planned to roll out in airport terminals nationwide throughout the year.
The brand first entered travel retail in 2017 via DFS Group at New York JFK International Airport Terminal 4.
The news follows swiftly on from a number of domestic launches at high-profile international locations, including a 20,000sq ft space at department store Selfridges in London’s Oxford Street – the brand’s first ever European flagship location.
In November, it opened its doors to a new anchor store in New York City at 30 Rockefeller Plaza spanning two-and-a-half levels over 20,000sq ft, merchandising signature toys and experiences.
As reported, FAO Schwarz is also collaborating with toy distributor Kidsland International Holdings to expand in Mainland China with a 27,000sq ft store primed to open at China World Mall in Beijing this year.
Elsewhere, it continues its expansion through Canadian retailer Hudson Bay and has struck several new licensing agreements in the confectionery, home and accessories segments with Home Fashions, Galerie USA and Uncas International.
