CHICKASHA, Okla. – The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Drovers controlled the offense Monday night to hand the UHV men’s soccer team a 1-0 loss.

It was the third time in three meetings for the Drovers (2-2), who received votes in the preseason NAIA coaches’ poll, to defeat the Jaguars.

The Jaguars fell to 1-1 with the loss and will return home for their home opener Friday when they host Mid-America Christian in a 3:30 p.m. contest at The Cage.

The Drovers outshot the Jaguars 14-2, including a 9-1 edge in shots on goal. The Drovers also held an 11-2 edge in corner kicks.

UHV goalkeeper Palemon Plancarte, who had 10 saves and a shutout in the Jaguars’ season opener on Saturday, turned in another strong performance holding the Drovers scoreless until the 79th minute. Plancarte finished with eight saves.

Llewellyn Evans tallied the lone goal for the Drovers off an assist from Abdel Nait-Zerrand.

Adrian Rodriguez got off the Jaguars lone shot on goal in the first half but goalkeeper Daneil Merkel made the save.

Brody Patience got off a shot in the 68th minute but the ball hit the post and the Jaguars would not get off another shot the rest of the way.

Plancarte earns RRAC honor

UHV goalkeeper Palemon Plancarte has been named the Red River Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Aug.27-Sept. 1.

In the Jaguars’ only game of the week, Plancarte picked up his ninth career shutout in goal as a Jaguar in a 1-0 victory over McPherson College (Kan.).

Plancarte turned back all 10 of the Bulldogs’ shots on goal, giving him 64 career saves along with a 12-3-2 record in goal. He has four shutouts in his last five games dating back to the 2017 season.

The senior from Houston finished with eight shutouts last season and a 0.931 goals against average.

He was twice named the RRAC Defensive Player of the Week last year and was named the RRAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Jesus Cortes of Our Lady of the Lake was named the RRAC Offensive Player of the Week.
