Research Questions Task Force work

The following list summarises the work that RQTF has undertaken on each vertical as at September 12, 2018, with links to relevant RQTF documents. It will be updated periodically to reflect progress.

• CSS
  • RQTF intends to focus on navigation issues emerging from CSS, but no further work as yet.
• Web XR Device API topics, including virtual, augmented and mixed reality
  • RQTF has been conducting a literature review of virtual, augmented and mixed reality to identify emerging research directions.

• Authentication:
  • RQTF focus has been on updating the W3C Inaccessibility of CAPTCHA Note, which included a literature review of emerging methods for distinguishing human and non-humans, implications for accessibility and attempts to address accessibility limitations of CAPTCHA methods.

  • RQTF is aware of work in establishing media accessibility user requirements, which could lead to research questions for RQTF to address. There may be related potential research questions in the domain of digital publishing and synchronized media, including replicating in XML and SMIL the synchronized media capabilities achieved in DAISY and EPUB.
• Artificial Intelligence

• Publishing: Domain-specific notations and content types
  • RQTF notes discussion on applying ARIA roles to math content, and potential for similar work in other related domains such as chemistry and music.
  • RQTF is in the process of conducting a literature review on STEM-specific notation and content, refining list of publications to review, and with the intention of identifying key domains addressed in the literature.
  • Emerging topics include current state of math accessibility, localization issues, and input and manipulation challenges of domain-specific notations

  • No research questions yet emerged for RQTF to address.
  • The Accessible Online Learning Community Group (AccessLearn) is in existence, and although its current focus is on supporting EOWG on extending content of the W3C web site to provide more targeted information for online learning accessibility, a future focus could be to work with RQTF to explore specific research questions that APA identifies.
