Member States second information session on medical devices nomenclature

Overview

 

 

The virtual Information session on Medical devices nomenclature took place 23 September 2021 from 09:00 to 11:00 CET in response to the request from the Seventy-fourth World Health Assembly, in the context of the Report by the Director-General on Standardization of medical devices nomenclature (document EB148/13) and the document for the  WHA74 and recording Member States interventions on  28 and 29 May 2021.

The  agenda included the following items:

  • Welcome by Mariangela Simao, Assistant Director-General, Access to Medicines and Health  Products Division.
  • Stakeholders presentations and Member States discussion, coordinated by Dr Clive Ondari, Director, Health Product Policy and Standards Department.
  • Methodology and outcomes of the consultations, by Adriana Velazquez Team Lead for Medical Devices.
  • Presentation of the 4 nomenclature systems: EMND, GMDN, UMDNS, UNSPSC and by other stakeholders. IFMBE statements were made only orally, here are the accompanying slides.
  • Presentation of nomenclature mapping pilot
  • Addressing questions and proposals from Member States
  • Next steps and closing statement.

 

Interpretation was available in the six official languages.
