WITN's Teacher of the Week for December 26th is Tammy Baysden of Warsaw Elementary School in Duplin County.

Baysden is in her third year of teaching. Education was not her first profession; she went back to college at UNCW at the age of 40 to obtain her teaching degree. She is graduating this month from the University of Mount Olive with her Masters in Elementary Education, with a 4.0 GPA.

Baysden teaches 4th grade at Warsaw Elementary School - language arts and social studies. During her first two years, she taught all subjects (math, language arts, science and social studies).

Baysden and her husband, Robert, just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on November 26. They have three children, Hudson is 21, Riley, 20 and Montana, 16. "My children are my life; therefore my "hobbies" are whatever they are into at that moment," Baysden writes.

Baysden was nominated by her daughter, who wrote that her mom "is the hardest working teacher, person, mom I know. She obtained her BA from UNCW in 2015 a working mother, raising 3 teenagers and taking care of the house. Momma graduated UNCW with a 3.89 GPA. Now she is obtaining her Masters in Education from UMO and currently has a 4.0 GPA, mom will graduate in December of this year. My mom is a 4th grade teacher and is very active in the school, she loves her students and treats them better than her own kids (lol). When momma is not at school, which is hardly never, she supports my brother. Riley, an NC Wesleyan football player, and myself, an all-star cheerleader for Carolina Storm and a high school varsity cheerleader for East Duplin.

We keep momma busy but she always has time for her studies, focused on keeping her GPA up, and her students. Mom is always looking up new ways to present her instruction so her students will have fun while they learn. Momma says she learns better when she is having fun and feels her students do too. Momma always stays ahead on her lesson plans, and always has her weeks work out and ready on Monday for all week. You never know when you will unexpectedly be out of work and need a sub. She is always prepared so someone else doesn't have to step in and prepare for her.

I, Montana, desire to be an educator someday and contribute it all to my mom. She is my inspiration and I love her passion for education! I really want to become a teacher and know that with my moms help and the teacher cadet program I can be as great as my mom."

Congratulations Mrs. Baysden!
