Senator Bill Nelson is running against Florida Governor Rick Scott in the senate race.

Nelson spoke to a full crowd of people at the Escambia Education Association about the importance of voting. Nelson also spoke about issues like Red Tide and healthcare.

Nelson also brought Alabama Senator Doug Jones to rally with him. Jones expressed his support for Nelson.

“What a big difference between Rick Scott and me on issues like the environment and the red tide and oil drilling out in the gulf,” Nelson said.

Residents who attended the event say it’s great that the democratic nominee decided to come to Pensacola, since the area is known for being largely conservative. Cynthia Tant says it could take some extra work for Nelson to win in Escambia County.

“It’s going to be a push,” Tant said. “All you can do is go out there and knock on doors and talk to people and say look at the environment, look at the healthcare, and hopefully our friends on the other side will vote for him instead.”

During the event, the crowd got excited when senator Jones spoke about his support for Nelson.

“This guy has the people in Florida’s back,” Jones said. “President’s can come and go, president’s do different things, but this guy is looking out for Florida, he’s got Florida’s back.”

The election is Nov. 6th.
