WINGS UP: UNCW’s biggest class graduates

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s May and that means another class graduates from UNCW. This year the university is saying congratulations to their biggest class yet.

They even added an additional commencement ceremony.

“I’m really thankful to be a part of this university. I learned a whole lot and I’m ready to take these lessons out to the real world,” graduate Noah Miyazaki said.

The class of 2018 has more than 2,000 undergraduates this year and even had to add an additional ceremony. Graduate Miyazaki said the hassle was worth the tassel as he walked across the stage.

“Definitely enjoy while you’re here, take your time figure out something you really enjoy doing and try to learn about that. You want to find something that you are passionate about,” Miyazaki said.

Meanwhile, parents soaked up the moment as well.

“It’s amazing. I haven’t cried all day. I’ve kept it together but I am very, very, very proud of him. He’s worked really hard to get where he is,” proud parent Amy Bowen said.

Amy Bowen said watching her only son earn his degree was a dream come true. She said this weekend of celebration is also full of emotions.

“Just embrace the moment and be present and give yourself a pat on the back because you’ve done such a good job of raising your child and getting them to this point so just embrace it,” Bowen said.
