Mason Berne and Clark Cota enter UNCW Baseball record books

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Two former members of the Topsail High School baseball team etched their names in the UNCW Baseball record books thanks to their performances in their senior seasons.

With a walk in the first inning of Sunday’s victory over the Northeastern Huskies, Mason Berne reached base for the 44th consecutive game this season.

In total, Berne has only not reached base once for the Seahawks this season.

The closer Clark Cota tied a 15 year old record with his save to clinch the victory Sunday, his 13th on the year.

His 13 saves ties the record set by Blake Cross in the 2003 season.

Cota has the chance to break the record in the regular season with a game against North Carolina Tuesday and in the final series against the College of Charleston starting Thursday.
