UNCW’s Cole Weiss named CAA Co-Player-of-the-Week


WILMINGTON, N.C. (UNCWSports.com) – Sophomore third baseman Cole Weiss was named Co-Player-of-the-Week by the Colonial Athletic Association on Monday after helping UNCW to a series win at conference-leading Northeastern last weekend.

Weiss hit .500 (7-for-14) last weekend with  two doubles, three runs scored and he knocked in five runs. Against Northeastern, he drove in both the tying and winning runs in UNCW’s 7-6 extra inning win on Friday in the first game of the series. On Sunday, with the Seahawks looking to win the series, Weiss collected two hits played an important part as the Seahawks erased a 3-0 deficit with three runs in the eighth inning. Weiss, drove in the second run with a one-out double and later scored the tying run on a two-out infield single by Jackson Meadows.

Weiss, who earns the honor for the first time, joins teammates Zack Canada and Mason Berne as CAA Weekly honor winners this season. Berne is a two-time honoree.

The Seahawks close out the regular season with four home games this week. UNCW takes on nationally-ranked North Carolina on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and welcomes conference rival College of Charleston for three games beginning on Thursday with another 6 p.m. first pitch.
