Season ends for UNCW Men’s Golf in NCAA Regional

BRYAN, Texas (UNCWSports.com) – UNCW made a push midway through the final round to move into the top five, but the Seahawks weren’t able to maintain their momentum as they finished ninth on Wednesday at the Traditions Club, home of the NCAA Bryan Regional hosted by Texas A&M.

Advancing to the National Championships from the regional were regional winner Texas A&M, Clemson, Baylor, UCLA and Kentucky. The Aggies continued their steady play, combing for an eight-under-par 279 for the third straight round. Ole Miss’s Braden Thornberry advanced to the National Championship by finishing as the top golfer not on an advancing team.

Freshman Christofer Rahm and sophomore Reese McFarlane paced the Seahawks in the final round, both finishing with one-under-par scores of 71.

Seniors Pat Cover and Thomas Eldridge concluded tremendous careers for the Seahawks. Both participated in three NCAA regionals, including twice as individuals. Cover is second all-time with a career stroke average of 72.80 while Eldridge is sixth (73.50). Eldridge ranks in a tie for fifth with 125 rounds played and is tied for 6th with 43 tournament appearances. He is tied with Cover for fifth with 14 career top-10’s. Cover, meanwhile, ends his Seahawk career tied for the all-time record with three tournament victories.
