Police investigating after possible attempted abduction near UNCW campus

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police are investigating after a possible attempted abduction near UNCW campus Friday morning.

According to a UNCW spokeswoman, a female student reported that at approximately 8:55 a.m., she was walking along Wood Dale Drive, toward campus, when a black car traveling at an excessive speed pulled off the road, behind some bushes but alongside her.

A passenger reportedly got out of the car and opened the rear passenger door. The release says the female was startled and ran to a nearby house. The resident of the house was outside and saw what happened. The car sped off toward campus after the female ran to the nearby house, according the spokeswoman.

The Wilmington Police Department is searching for this car, described as a mid-sized, new-model black sedan with chrome wheels and tinted/dark windows. The passenger of the vehicle is described as a white male in his mid 20s or 30s, in blue jeans and a blue shirt, with sandy blond hair. The driver was also a white male in his mid 20s.

Anyone who has information is asked to contact UPD at (910) 962-2222 or 911.

The release states, “as always students should remember to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings at all times, and to reach out to UPD or take advantage of other university resources designed to protect our community, including CARE and the Counseling Center.
