Welcome to the Summer Language Institute!

SLI is currently accepting applications for the 2024 institute, operating a primarily in-person program in Pittsburgh and at four abroad sites for the upcoming summer. Certain languages and levels will accommodate online participants as student demand and instructional resources allow. Prospective participants will be asked to indicate the instructional format in which they wish to study on their SLI application. The 2024 Institute will be offering domestic courses in 11 different languages, four study abroad programs, and an internship opportunity in Ukrainian studies. Join us to achieve your language goals in Arabic, Bosnian/Croatian/Montenegrin/Serbian, Bulgarian, Czech, Hebrew, Hungarian, Polish, Russian, Slovak, Turkish, or Ukrainian.

Please visit our program pages for the details, including dates, costs, scholarship opportunities in each of our eleven languages. Prospective program participants are welcome to subscribe to our mailing list or to email us directly with your questions about the institute, our application process, or your individual situation and learning goals. If you are exploring funding options for prospective participation at SLI, you may wish to consult the list of scholarships on our Funding Your Study page.

SLI abroad programs are now being planned in Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Montenegro for summer 2024! Through a partnership with Indiana University Bloomington, 1st-year Hungarian students will also be eligilble for IU's study abroad program in Hungary. Students with prior language study may be eligible for SLI abroad-only programs.
